Gozo

The smaller sister island of Malta, but do not be fooled by its size, Gozo is packed full of history and natural beauty.

WHY VISIT GOZO

Gozo is the smaller sister island of Malta. It is far less developed and very laid back in Gozo, you will find people playing boules in the street, horse and carts regularly passing, local fruit and veg sellers on the side of the road almost like it is stuck in time.

Whilst all the above is true, most of the hotels and resorts here have kept up with modern times, the hotels offer all the facilities you would expect to find in any other area of Malta. What makes Gozo special is this small island, only 67km2, has so much to see and do and being so small it is easy to get to from one end to another in no time at all.

The most popular beach is Ramla Bay with its red sand but there are many other popular beaches located around the island; Dwejra, San Blas, Xlendi and Marsalform with the latter two being popular tourist resorts.

Victoria, also known as Rabat, is the capital of Gozo and it is here you will find the Citadella, the walled city that stands impressively in the centre dominating the skyline. You can go inside and explore the fortifications and ramparts with multiple museums and history galore on show, if you climb to the top, you get panoramic views of the whole island.

There are some stunning churches, one of the most notable being Ta’ Pinu in Gharb. You will find working windmills, calypso’s cave (from Homers Odyssey) and Ggantija Temples – these Neolithic temples are amongst the oldest surviving manmade structures in the world).

One of Gozo’s finest assets is the landscape and natural beauty. There are a number of small villages and in between each village or resort is natural landscape. Walking and rambling in Gozo is popular and for good reason with inland valleys, scenic coastline to explore and the beautiful Ta Cenc cliffs. You also have the natural coastal hot spots like the Inland Sea and Fungus Rock with its mythical medicinal properties. Gozo is also one of the best places you will find for Scuba Diving; the Blue Hole, Raqqa Reef, Inland Sea & Tunnel, Caves, Arches and 3 Wrecks!

Gozo Holidays provide a laid-back setting with relaxation and exploration options.
