Don't forget that Ibiza Town and its many superclubs are only 40 minutes away by car. Even closer, the lively town of Santa Eulalia is only half an hour away by car.

Portinatx's beaches
Playa de Portinatx is a beautiful beach that could be on a postcard. The beach is known for its cute llaüts, which are small boats that are often moored just off the reefs and the islet of Sa Guardiola, as well as its dry docks and small huts, which are still used by fishermen to store their nets and fishing gear.
If you are in Portinatx and look out to sea, you can see the Punta de Moscarter lighthouse in the distance. This lighthouse was built in 1977 to make the seas around northern Ibiza safer for sailing. Before it was put in place, there was no light signal between the Tagomago lighthouse on the east side of the island and the Sa Conillera lighthouse on the west side of the island.
Arenal Petit
The first cove in Portinatx is Arenal Petit. It's only about 60 meters long, and we've already talked about how its safe, clear waters, golden sands, familiar vibe, and a beautiful beachfront promenade, which connects it to the main beach, are what make it special. Arenal Petit has a lot to offer beachgoers, like parasols, sun beds, paddle boats, and chiringuito bars right on the beach. Visitors can also try out water sports like stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and diving.
Arenal Gros
Arenal Gros is 170 meters long, and it is the beach in Portinatx that people go to the most. Paddle boats, banana boats, SUP boards, and kayaks are common ways for tourists and day trippers to get around. Because of how clear the water is, the cove is also a popular place for scuba divers and snorkelers. Arenal Gros also has a diving school and a mini golf course with great views. Visitors can go on organized boat trips, or they can rent a small boat and drive it themselves without a license. A tourist train also goes through the area and stops at towns and villages along the coast and in the middle of the country.
Playa
Porto
The beach that is the farthest from the town centre is Playa Porto, which is only about 40 meters long. It is surrounded by small cliffs with pine trees that you can climb to get a great view of the Mediterranean. It is a beautiful and quiet beach.
Calas de Portinatx
Aside from the famous Cala Portinatx, there are other beautiful and romantic coves in the area that will make you want to take a swim in a quiet, peaceful place that isn't on the tourist trail. We'll talk about a few of them below:
Cala Xarraca
Cala Xarraca is one of the most famous beaches in Portinatx. It is known for its famous rope swing, which can be seen on many postcards from the island. Your kids will have a lot of fun trying to stay balanced on the swing that hangs over the calm water of the Mediterranean. We suggest that you wear water shoes because you'll have to walk through a hard, rocky area to get there. The seabed at Cala Xarraca is also a great place to go snorkelling. The area around it is also breathtakingly beautiful.
Cala Xarraca is made up of two different parts.
The first stretch is about 100 meters long and is next to a small cliff. You can see it as soon as you get to the beach. The second one is smaller and harder to get to, which is why nudists tend to go there more. Just a few meters into the water at Cala Xarraca, there is a very steep drop-off. On the other side of the beach, there is a small island that swimmers can easily reach. On the right side of the cove, there is a group of traditional fishermen's huts. This is a great place to look at the seabed and see fish, octopuses, and cuttlefish in their natural environment.
Cala d'en Serra
This quiet beach with long stretches of fine sand and small pebbles is only 9 kilometres from San Joan. It's only about 50 meters long, but fishermen's huts and a cute beach bar called a chiringuito to make it stand out. It's not often visited by tourists, so it's a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon on the beach where there's no competition for sunbeds and umbrellas. Pine trees, cliffs, and rock faces can be seen all around the cove. You can get there by car, but you'll have to park about 50 meters away from the beach and walk down a trail to get to the beach. Cala d'en Serra is a wonderful place to snorkel. But because of the type of beach, we suggest that you wear water shoes or flip-flops.
Cala Xuclar
This small sand and gravel beach is just 6 kilometres from Sant Joan. It is more than 35 meters long. Cala Xuclar is usually pretty empty, and its natural beauty comes from the pine trees and rocks around it. At the entrance to the cove, there are some traditional fishermen's huts, a dry dock, and a small wooden chiringuito beach bar where you can get some simple but delicious local dishes. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside around Portinatx.

This cave was built to honour Tanit, a goddess of fertility and luck in Carthage. Inside, there are many impressive stalactites. Archaeological studies have also shown that the cave was used as a home in prehistoric times. This mysterious cave was found in 1907, not long after some strange ceramic pieces were found nearby. During the first excavations, 600 complete terracotta figures and more than 1,000 heads were found. Many of the heads were those of the god Tanit. The Island Council of Ibiza bought the cave in 1990. They then fixed it up and let the public use it.
Enter the Portinatx watchtower
This defensive structure is on the Punta de Portinatx, which is 45 meters above sea level and is on the coast of Ibiza. It looks a lot like the nearby Balansat Tower. Both were built in the 1800s by the engineer Juan Ballester y Zafra. The entrance is on the first floor, and there is a rope ladder to get there. The ground floor used to be where the warehouse and the ammunition dump were, but the owners of the land changed the way it was built.
